POSITION: LIGHTING DESIGNER
CLOSES: Open until filled; first round interviews expected TBD
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Permanent, Full-Time, Non- Exempt
SALARY & BENEFITS: $25-28 per hour DOE, plus excellent benefits
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA) a 700-seat, state-of-the-art performing arts venue located on the campus of the original Edmonds High School, just 20 minutes north of Seattle, seeks a creative, collaborative, and skilled Lighting Designer to marshal the transformative power of light to illuminate performers, focus an audience's eyes, support a narrative, and trigger emotions.
ECA presents an array of outstanding performing artists from around the world, provides space, production management, and technical expertise for a variety of community partners and rental clients, and serves more than 85,000 patrons who enjoy the facility annually.
ECA is an innovating and challenging workplace, and the qualified candidate will need to be flexible, positive, and able to artistically contribute to a rapidly growing organization. We are looking for someone who shares a passion for the performing arts and supporting ECA's artists and clients lighting needs. The successful candidate will be a problem-solver with outstanding communication skills, and a team-player with the ability to work under pressure.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lighting Designer is an important and dedicated member of the production team that has demonstrated experience in designing, installing, operating, and maintaining theatrical lighting for presented and rental events. Like all employees at EPFD/ECA, the Lighting Designer must collaborate well with all team members and remain committed to EPFD/ECAs mission, goals, and values, while contributing to their evolution.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, install, operate, and maintain stage lighting system for rehearsals and performances as needed.
Serve as lighting department head when needed. Supervise and direct overhire electricians and follow-spot operators.
Assist visiting lighting designers with any setup, programming, etc that they might need.
Maintain adequate lighting supplies: gel, lamps, other expendables.
Loading, unloading and setting up new lighting equipment.
Participate in production meetings throughout the project.
Make recommendations for system upgrades.
Keep lighting paperwork up to date.
Support the maintenance of facilities on and off the stage as needed and as available.
Work with other departments to support events as needed including fundraisers and possible off-site events.
Performs related duties and projects as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working theatrical lighting design. Design experience for concert, musical and straight theatre, dance, and special events.
Operational knowledge of theatrical dimming and control networks. DMX, EDMX, ETCNet.
Thorough understanding of ETC control console: Ion XE
Advanced skills as Master Electrician: Instrument hang, circuiting and maintenance.
Supervisory experience directing lighting crews.
Inherent comfort level for quickly adapting to changing environments.
Willingness to work an irregular schedule, reliable transportation.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively to solve problems and improve efficiencies.
Ability to manage simultaneous, multiple projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
Proven and effective communication skills to interact positively with ECA clients and staff.
An ability to exercise a high level of professionalism, judgment, and above all, discretion, and confidentiality.
Computer skills preferred include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
Minimum of four years progressive experience as theatrical electrician / lighting designer.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to bend, climb stairs, and continuously stand or walk for extended periods.
Ability to work more than 8 hours in a single shift.
Periods of remaining in a stationary position in an office setting and operating a computer.
Ability to observe details at close range during computer use and document review.
Repetitive use of hands and wrists on computers and equipment.
The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Occasionally must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
